PAN PAN MARINE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Pan Pan signifies urgency aboard a boat, ship, or vessel – when repeated three times in marine radio communications. Although it means that there may be a potentially emergency, Pan Pan 3 times also implies that there is no immediate danger to life. ‘Pan-pan’ informs the emergency rescue teams that a safety issue exists, whereas a Mayday call has a different interpretation. Mayday calls signify imminent danger to human life or serious danger to the vessel.
